FAQ

We aim to provide a structured day that is developmentally appropriate. Parts of the day include circle time, storytime, center/work time, small group work,
project work, journal/tabletop time, meals (for full-day students), snacks, outdoor play, and quiet/rest time.

Up to 20 students per classroom. Each classroom will have a teacher, a paraprofessional, and an additional paraprofessional that is shared with another classroom.

Full-day students receive a lunch. All students receive snacks during their time in school.

Arrival begins at 8:50 AM Monday-Thursday, 9:50 AM on Friday. Dismissal begins each day at 3:50 PM. 

Parents are in charge of drop off and pick up for all pre-K students.

Yes! We will have one hour of quiet time each afternoon for our full-day program students.

If your child needs to take medication at school, DO NOT send medication in your child’s backpack. Medication must be brought into the health room by a parent. Contact the school nurse at 816-986-4152 to make arrangements for your child to take medication at school.

Your child must be symptom free of fever, vomiting, and diarrhea without medication for 24 hours before returning to school.

Please call the school office at 816-986-4150 to let them know your child will be absent and when you plan on returning. If your child is sick, please call in everyday that your child is absent.

Your child will have opportunities to play in a sensory table (flour, cornmeal, water, sand, beans, rice), paint, use markers, glue, scissors, and will play outside daily. Your child should wear comfortable clothes and safe shoes for running/climbing. Please place an extra set of clothing in your child’s backpack. Please send a jacket/coat/gloves/hat with your child, we go outside unless it is below 20 degrees outside.

Yes, it should come to school every day so your child can take home important papers and art work. The backpack should be large enough to hold a manila envelope. Please keep an extra set of clothing in your child’s backpack in case of spills or other accidents.

Siblings/Cousins or other children under the age of 18 are not allowed in classrooms during the school day according to LSR7 Board Policy.

Only non-food items will be accepted for classroom birthday celebrations.

• A total of 180 full-day pre-K spots are available for the 2025-26 school year.

• Students who reside in the LSR7 boundaries and are 4 years old by July 31, 2025. (Kindergarten-eligible for the following year)
• The district will offer free pre-K to 120 students whose family household income qualifies for free & reduced lunch. 
• The district will also offer tuition-based pre-K for 60 additional students. Tuition-paid students do not need to meet any household income criteria.
   

A lottery system will determine enrollment if we receive more applications than we have spots. Any additional spots that become available will be filled from our waitlist. 

• Prairie View Elementary will house the PreK program
• The PreK Program will have its own entrance, parking, signage, etc., and will operate as its own site.
   

• District transportation will not be provided at this time.
• Parents/guardians will be responsible for transportation to the pre-K program.
   

The PreK Program students will attend school five days a week following the same student attendance as K-12 students.

This program is an addition to the district and will not remove or move any programming currently offered at the existing GBEEC sites. 

We utilize the Project Construct curriculum framework. Our classrooms are designed for students to develop their knowledge and social-emotional skills through their interactions with the physical and social environment. The primary aim of Project Construct is to help teachers foster the development of each child as an independent learner. Project Construct classrooms give children the opportunity to make choices, collaborate, and exchange ideas and feelings. The children learn to regulate their behavior, solve problems, and think. The Project Construct framework is linked to state and national early childhood learning standards and the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP). The DRDP is an assessment instrument used to document progress for early childhood classrooms highly recommended by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). In addition to Project Construct, we will provide supplemental instruction in the areas of literacy, phonics, and math. Our program is focused on preparing our students for kindergarten!

The Board of Education approved the expansion of the district’s pre-Kindergarten offerings at its Feb. 22, 2024 meeting following a district Citizens’ Advisory Committee (CAC) recommendation informed by a four-month needs and feasibility study from Oct. 2023 to January 2024.

If you have a child attending full-day pre-K, there will be an option to attend Y-Club Services. They will open at 6 am before school and close at 6 pm after school concludes. If your child attends the morning pre-K session, they would be eligible to attend Y-Club before school begins, as early as 6:30 am. If your child attends the afternoon pre-K session, they may attend the after school Y-Club session, which ends at 6 pm. There will not be Y-Club services offered in the middle of the day for our half-day pre-K sessions.

We request that all students be fully potty trained to attend our pre-k program. While we understand occasional bathroom accidents may occur, students must
demonstrate independence with toileting skills. We are not equipped with the facilities or staff to change diapers/pull-ups or assist in potty training.  We will ask families to partner with us if your child needs additional assistance in this area.
